Meet the team
Sam is qualified chartered certified accountant and chartered tax adviser, with nearly twenty years experience in public practice. Throughout her career, she has provided accounting, tax compliance and tax advisory services to a vast array of individuals and businesses with turnovers up to £20 million.
Sam has a particular interest in helping people to run their businesses more effectively. she has extensive experience of putting in place management information systems to help monitor and improve profitability, and providing ongoing support and advice. Business Link in London has used Sam's expertise in this area to help their clients on a number of occasions.
In her spare time Same loves to travel, particularly liking places with a totally different environment to home. Some of her favourite places are Botswana, Bangkik, Jordan, and Southern India. Of places less exotic she enjoys going for weekends to France where the good food and wine are a major attraction. Her last expedition was to Botswana with her husband, and her plan for next year is to go on safari - again!
Sam qualified as a chartered accountant in 1972 and founded Samuel Blitz and Company, the predecessor to Blitz Gooday, two years later. He originally set up in practice to help people and would ensure that none of his clients would pay more than their fair share of taxes. He would also take over the cumbersome accounting paperwork from his clients where possible leaving them free to run their businesses secure in the knowledge that their affairs were well looked after.
Sam's ethos was to provide a prompt efficient service that was value for money. Through this philosophy, he built up the business from scratch to a four hundred strong client practice largely on the recommendations of satisfied customers.
He is now semi-retired and works for the practice as a consultant, providing support as and when his expertise is needed. In his spare time he enjoys travelling and ten pin bowling.
Elaine qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst and Young in 1990, before moving into industry, where she worked for several multinational organisations over the next eight years. This included Yule Catto, a £500 million turnover plc, where she was group chief accountant. After a short career break to have children, she returned to public practice in 1999, to take care of the accounting and tax needs of owner managed businesses.
At Blitz Gooday, she enjoys the wide variety of accountancy work involved and the interesting mix of clients. "It's hard to make accountancy sound interesting," Elaine says, "but I enjoy the different types of work, and I really like working with Sam Gooday."
Elaine lives in the Welwyn Garden City area and keeps busy raising her two young children. She enjoys a good holiday, usually going abroad to escape the British weather. The family swim a lot, and Elaine likes keeping fit and doing pilates. Perhaps one day Blitz Gooday will ask Elaine to provide clients with keep fit classes – but for now we'll let her get on with finishing your accounts!
Sandra manages the administration in our practice. She also runs our company secretarial service, helping our clients that are limited companies to comply with their legal responsibilities. She began her career in 1979 as secretary to a partner in a West End chartered accountants firm and joined Samuel Blitz and Company, our predecessor firm, in 1991.
Sandra is a useful first point of contact for many of our clients as she is well versed in the workings of the tax and accounting regimes. She ensures that tax returns, accounts and other necessary statutory documents are dispatched in the right format to the right place on time.
Three things Sandra can't live without are her mobile phone, the Internet, and her car.
Pam began her career in 1965 working in the accounting departments of a number of businesses in and around London before joining our predecessor firm, Samuel Blitz and Company in 1988.
Pam now runs our payroll bureau and is responsible for preparing VAT returns on behalf of our clients. Many of our clients prefer to outsource these functions to us, if they do not have an in-house accountant, to free up their time to get on with running their business. Pam also provides clients with advice about a variety of VAT and payroll matters to help them meet their obligations. She also plays an important part in the accounts preparation process.
She says she is "dotty" about her grandson (who is, of course, gorgeous); although she finds sometimes that coming to work is by comparison with looking after him a well-earned break! Pam loves adventurous holidays and has been recently to Jamaica ("fabulous people, really relaxed"), where she went jet skiing even though she can't swim! "If I could go anywhere, I'd love to go back to Australia or to Cuba," Pam says. She'd love to get the backpack on and hike round the world!
Amanda is responsible for the credit control and bookkeeping activities carried out for Blitz Gooday's clients. If you find that you're struggling to get your well-earned money from other people’s pockets, Amanda is the one to call! In addition she is responsible for creating and despatching sales invoices on behalf of our clients, and for collecting the payments, and doing all the bookkeeping. You’ll wonder how you ever managed without her!
Prior to working at Blitz Gooday, Amanda worked for the Abbey National in a credit control role and gained a Certificate in Financial Services Practice from the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Amanda is married with two children. Her two children keep her busy throughout the week, and on the weekends it's swimming lessons and birthday parties. During her holidays, Amanda and her family enjoy camping in the UK rather than going abroad – "we just like to take the tent and enjoy nature," Amanda says. Amanda's hobbies include card making, and cross-stitch embroidery.
